Friend of GHC

What is the “Friends of the GHC” scheme?
A voluntary service contribution scheme open to grassroots leaders to contribute their time and effort as part of community service.
Why have a “Friends of the GHC” scheme?
At present, the GHC is managed by a handful of full-time NACLI trainers. There are no full-time GHC staff to run the day-to-day operations of the GHC, which include duties such as registering visitors, storing artefacts, manning the GHC during opening hours and briefing visitors during guided tours. To prepare for an increased visitorship and future outreach programmes as well as the volume of artefacts coming in from grassroots organisations, volunteers will be needed to help run the GHC.
Who can join as “Friends of the GHC”?
Volunteers who are experienced grassroots leaders who are able to serve at the GHC on weekdays and weekends.
How may the “Friends of the GHC” contribute?

Friends of the GHC may contribute in the following ways:

• Manning the GHC during its opening hours on weekdays and weekends;
• Briefing visitors/organised groups on scheduled dates;
• Receiving and recording the donation of artefacts e.g. books and magazines, memberships cards, trophies, photographs, tapes etc; and
• Systematically classifying and storing the artefacts.

How to recruit “Friends of the GHC”:
Membership by recommendation and application. The NACLI Board Advisory Committee on Grassroots Heritage will assess and approve the candidates for membership in the “Friends of the GHC” scheme. Successful candidates will receive a letter of appointment signed by the Chairman of the Advisory Committee on Grassroots Heritage.
What benefits are the “Friends of the GHC” entitled to?
There shall be no monetary benefits for the “Friends of the GHC”. However, during the service period, “Friends” shall be given a complimentary NACLI polo shirt as a uniform to wear when performing assigned tasks and services. Successful applicants will be provided with the necessary in-house training so that they can perform the duties and tasks assigned.
What is the tenure of the membership?
Tenure is for one year and is renewable.
